Finding a good Older People's Day Centre
Bette Davis famously said 'Getting older is not for Sissies'. There are many challenges and opportunities of growing older that accompany the passing of years. The Polish poet Stanislaw Jerzy Lec wrote 'Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art.' Over half of all people over 70 in Northamptonshire face life living on their own. It's never been more important than in 2022 to be able to find places of support and encouragement for living life as an older person.
Day Centres exist for social gathering, support and mutual encouragement. They deserve public and private backing from the community to help ensure that ageing can be a fulfilling time of life, especially when people face physical and mental challenges they have never encountered before.
When you are looking for an Older People's Day Centre, look for a setting not only with qualified care and focussed activities but a place where you can feel you can belong and contribute. Joining a Day Centre can help maintain and improve your physical and mental wellbeing, often preventing health issues before they get out of hand. Going along can bring refreshment and interest to days that can often feel deserted without company and community.
Contact your local Day Centre and ask for a show round to get a feel for what goes on. Make sure you understand about costs and what support may be available. Don't be a Sissy - make the first move!
